Mercedes Benz SLK AMG Sport Line, a new eye-catching appearance and a new engine derivative NEW CAR

SLK

The SLK range receives an all-around upgrade, standard across the range with a muscular front apron, prominent side skirts and rear apron along with a high-class interior and a new 1.8-litre turbo-charged engine. “Buying trends have shown that there are customers looking for the additional power and torque in a 4-cylinder engine,” says Selvin Govender, Divisional Manager Marketing for Mercedes-Benz Cars. Enter their new 1.8-litre, turbo-charged engine which produces 150kw and 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. The SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY slips in neatly between the baby SLK 200 and the meatier SLK 350. Mercedes Benz has also announced that all new SLK models get the AMG Sport Line highlights. This means standard features like a 5.8-inch colour infotainment display with Bluetooth hands-free, adaptive brake lights, attention assist and electric parking brake to name a few. Coupled to Merc’s 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission, the SLK 250 has an instrument cluster designed… Read More »

More pics of the new Golf GTI NEW CAR

Image converted using ifftoany

Just in case it’s managed to slip by you, the new GTI has arrived in South Africa and VW hopes to add to the 59 500 GTIs already sold here in the past few decades. The 7th version of this iconic car boasts a 2-litre turbocharged direct injection engine that puts out 162kw, exactly 100% more than the first generation GTI. The engine has a completely newly developed cylinder head and a water-cooled exhaust gas circulation loop to the turbocharger that is fully integrated in the cylinder head. This type of exhaust gas cooling makes a crucial contribution towards improving fuel consumption at full load. Fuel consumption has been a massive concern in developing the new GTI and both the manual and DSG models boast an auto stop/start feature and 6 gears as standard. The BlueMotion benefits mean a combined consumption of 6L/100km compared to the 7.3 litres the previous… Read More »

World’s first solar powered family car NEW CAR

stella-worlds-first-solar-powered-family-car04-818x668

Completed to compete in the World Solar Challenge 2013, Stella is the world’s first solar powered family car. And when they say family, they mean family. They’ve got space for four people, a fully accessible trunk and touch buttons and LEDs inside instead of push buttons. The car can do 600 kms on a charge and the photo-voltaic panels on the rood generate more electricity than they use, so there’s a surplus of energy. As the look suggests, they’ve gone for aerodynamics out the exhaust and lightweight materials like carbon fiber and aluminium. Follow the creators progress here or on @solarehv

Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring Edition coming to SA NEW CAR

Opel Corsa 2011

Officially the most exclusive Opel ever made is on it’s way to South Africa with a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine under the bonnet, tweaked to produce 154 kW and 250Nm of torque. That’ll sort the 0-100 in 6.8 seconds and go on to do 230km/h. They’ll be in SA in limited numbers so don’t get too excited to ever see one, but if you can’t live without the feeling of knowing you’ve been near one, spend some time in the East of Jozi, you’re bound to come right. Visual changes include the addition of a front lip spoiler, a new rear roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes and dark-painted 18-inch alloy wheels.

Research @Intel Labs, new lifestyle developments from Intel in San Francisco NEW TECH

StatisticalApproach

Brands like Apple and Samsung might make the gadgets we fondle all day, but its companies like Intel that spend the money on research and development, putting the time into what goes inside those gadgets. In San Francisco this past week, Intel spent some time showing off what grand ideas of the future it has planned for us consumers of tech. Below is a collection of some of the most exciting and relevant to us consumers of lifestyle tech. It’s worth reminding yourself as you read that what you’re looking at is RESEARCH and not necessarily the best practical applications of the tech. Of course it’s not practical to have a singular LED display on every product on sale in a supermarket, but it’s a good way to display the possibilities. Intelligence on the road Intel’s is placing a lot of importance on making the street a safer place with… Read More »

Nissan ZEOD RC is world’s fastest race car and will rep in Le Mans 2014 NEW CAR

Nissan-ZEOD-RC-designboom09

Nissan has chosen the Le Mans 24 hour 2013 race to announce their entrant for the 2014 race, also the world’s fastest race car, capable of speeds upwards of 300km/h using electronic technology exclusively. The ZEOD RC will partake in the 2014 Le Mans race using the same lithium battery technology that is found in the current Leaf EV, but I fear that’s like saying Stefan Peterhansel won the Paris Dakar in the current Mini Countryman. They’ll also be launching new e-Drivetrain technology in the car and a “zero-emission on demand” program that cuts off all petrol-powered assistance. Last year’s Deltawing may not have been their biggest success, but at least they’re trying new things.
