Mercedes Benz ‘ener-G-force’ fuel cell SUV concept. Flippin wow! NEW CAR

Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept Vehicle.

Mercedes Benz have responded to the 2012 Los Angeles Design Challenge to create the “highway patrol car of 2025” with this completely desirable off-roader based on the iconic G Class.

The ‘ener-G-force’ fuel cell SUV concept is an idea of the future of environmentally friendly off-road vehicles that ambulances and policemen might be using.

Bleeding awesome, I say!

So here’s how it works (at least in theory). Obviously it’s a zero emission vehicle which stores recycled water on the roof in tanks. This water is then transferred to the ‘hydro-tech converter’ which converts the natural resources in to usable hydrogen for the fuel cells.

The energy is stored in batteries stored in the side skirts of the car, that or replaceable batteries. These change color as the charge decreases, letting the driver know it’s time for a change.

Drive 500 miles on the four wheel hub motors driving each wheel. The car also has a “Terra Scanner” on the rood which permanently scans the surroundings and is thus able to adjust suspension parameters for maximum traction on the respective surfaces.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive…more like OMG!

AMG01

Sorry. That wasn’t very punny.

The Paris Motor Show has produced undoubtedly one of its most interesting announcements, the new Merc AMG electric car.

Four synchronized motors work together to produce a whopping 552kw and a torque of 1000Nm. The high voltage batteries are a result of a collab between the AMG folk and some intelligent Formula 1 engineers. The resulting vibration-free electric motors produce all of their torque immediately and weigh only 45 kgs each. They all also drive each wheel individually, so power is distributed where it is needed.

This is now the quickest production electric vehicle available, and the recharge time has been cut down dramatically to get you running quicker than before.

Acceleration, 0-100 in 3.9 seconds, and top speed of 250km/h.

Oh, and it’s wearing a Silver Surfer suit.

The new Mercedes Benz SL 65 AMG. 1%…your chariot awaits.

SL 65 AMG

Along with a new SL 500 and a new SL 63 AMG, Merc are proud to show off their new SL 65 AMG, now on SA soil. It’s lighter, face-lifted and more powerful than before. The SL letters have never been more desirable.

The new roadster packs in a massive AMG 6.0-litre V12 “biturbo” (twin-turbocharged) engine that’s producing 463 kW, up from 450 in the previous version. Toque comes out at an impressive 1000Nm.

While the power’s gone up, the weight has gone down, by a prop-forward’s weigh-in of 170kgs. That’s thanks to the all-aluminium body shell found also in the SLS AMG.

The reduced weight means reduced fuel consumption, in this version 17% goes back in your wallet. Not that you need it if you’re driving this thing in the first place. But maybe you care about the environment…who knows. That and the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission and a start/stop function on the engine all do their bit.

Total consumption, 11.6-litres. Which is terrible LOL, let’s be honest.

[tweetherder]Performance numbers: 0-100 in 4 seconds and top speed of 250km/h. And let’s not forget the V12 AMG sound that your money buys you.[/tweetherder]

An all new Mercedes Benz B-Class

B-Klasse

It’s an all-new B-Class from Mercedes and that doesn’t mean that they’ve just slapped a few new bin parts on it, changed the year it was made and called it “all new”, this range really is, “all new”.

The new B-Cass features two new four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, descendants from last year’s BlueDIRECT V6 and V8 models. The engines are also designed for transverse and longitudinal installation, and that means the turning on this 11-metre long car is extraordinary.

Both petrol models feature a 1.6-litre version, the B180 at 90kw and the B200 at 115kw.

The two diesel engines in the range are 1.8-litres, the B180 CDI at 80 kW and the B200 CDI at 100 kW.

The big news however is the new 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission in the B-Class. It’s compact, has 7 gears and has an electric oil pump which means start/stop functionality is included, in fact it’s standard across the range. It also means you get the convenience of an auto with the fuel efficiency of a manual.
