Svalt ‘D’ cools down overheating Macbooks. Wait, shouldn’t the Macbook do that?

In order to make the latest batch of Apple Macbook laptops as thin as they are, the monkeys at Mac have had to leave out some pretty important elements (like heat distribution fans) that enable the over-priced lap warmers to work properly. Pick your jaw up off the floor fan-boys, this isn’t the first time Apple has made a change to one of their devices that hasn’t been thought through properly, inconveniences the very people that make their products so popular and screws the customer worse than a lifetime holder of an Ashley Madison account. What this latest omission means is that the new range of Macbook laptops are prone to getting pretty hot. Enter a breed of parasite, more resilient than a cockroach made of rubber: the Apple peripheral producer. Svalt have created the ‘D’, a performance cooling vertical dock that fits onto Macbooks of any size and keeps… Read More »

All electric ATX8080 urban scooter makes lane-splitting more fun and even easier

Austin Electric Powersports based in the US are proud to announce the “ATX 8080” all electric urban scooter capable of 80 km range at 80 km/h. Obvs being electric there are no emissions except for the ones produced in getting your electricity from coal, into a power plant, through the countryside and over to your outlet. ANYWAYS… The electric motor propulsion and the generating system into one moving part with no gears, filters or belts for maintenance. This means it’s simple and incredibly rugged to suffer through your urban lifestyle. Samsung have sponsored the power source on board that plugs directly into a wall socket for a 4 to 5 hour charge time. One look at that low centre of gravity and you can just tell how well this thing lane-splits. On the down side, sitting so low down does mean you’re pretty less visible to Jozi drivers. Not like… Read More »

RehabStudio hack a pair of sneakers allowing them to change color. Intro Shift Sneakers

Either fashion just got a solid wallop upside the head, or douche-baggery has been taken to a whole new level of Starbucks coffee. London based creative technology agency RehabStudio have tasked themselves with imagining what the clothes of the future will look like and do. They’ve decided that they will have unexpected properties with tech integral to the garment. To prove their point, they’ve hacked into a pair of sneakers and added phase change fibers and shape memory meta materials that enable interchangeability between layouts, locking chosen patterns to the sneakers. Conductive filaments woven into the shoes membrane, pass electrical signals through to LEDs that act as ductile screens which displays the ‘shift’ designs. The whole project is open source with an app featuring a “pack” store where users can download and share design layout. From: http://www.shiftsneaker.com/

Martin Jetpack makes personal flight a possibility

Although it’s taken them 34 years to get it off the ground (get it?), FINALLY the Martin Jetpack personal flyer or whatever you wanna call it is a reality. Hailing from New Zealand (no shit!), the creators have built their jetpack out of carbon fibre and aluminum alloys making it light weight enough to fly in tight spaces and remain easily maneuverable. More maneuverable than a helicopter anyway. Good thing this since one of their main target markets is the emergency responder market and government agencies. Imagine getting chased down the M1 North by a Metro cop on one of these. Bril. (WARNING: the vid is a bit long in the tooth) The vehicle itself is powered by a 200 hp V4 petrol engine that drives two fans for up to 30 minutes of flight time. Top speed is 74 km/h and you’ll be able to go as high as… Read More »

Lexus creates new advanced Hoverboard. World (kinda) rejoices. #LexusHover

“There’s no such thing as impossible, it’s just a matter of figuring out how” says a Lexus boffin who has been involved in the creation of a brand new advanced Hoverboard, part of Lexus’ Amazing in Motion project. Sick! Making use of magnetic levitation with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets to give the Hoverboard frictionless movement of a kind that had be en thought impossible before, the Lexus team seems to have cracked the hover code. It’s not a car (obviously), but the Hoverboard shares design cues with today’s Lexus cars, including the signature spindle grille. It has also been made using some of the same materials, both high-tech and natural, such as bamboo. Lets not forget one very important lesson though, taught to us recently by science superhero Neil deGrasse Tyson. Hoverboards as we saw in Back to the Future will sadly never be a reality.

Pizza Huts new “Blockbuster Box” delivery box turns into a movie projector

There are few better combinations than movies and pizza. Well there’s movies and beer. And sport and beer. And partying and beer. And braaing and beer. Well anyway. That first combo is still pretty cool, and Pizza Hut’s new delivery box that turns into a movie projector using your smartphone is going to ensure that it only gets cooler. It works as so…and only available in China.

Acer announces 10 new laptops, ultrabooks and tablets

Acer have pulled the lid off of ten new products throughout the laptop, tablet and mobile range. Their big theme is fashion, and it shows through. All of the products have a striking appearance that separates them from the competition; at least in terms of looks.   The S7 is the flagship model of Acer’s Ultrabooks. With an i7 processor, Gorilla Glass 2.0 and 8GB of RAM, it’s the most capable device in terms of productivity. It has a glass finish on the back of the screen, which Acer claim can be used as a whiteboard, but we just think it looks nice. The 13.3-inch screen can be tilted back 180 degrees, and even though it comes in full HD and quad HD, Acer still promises up to 10 hours of battery life. Following the growing trend of convertible tablets, the Switch 12 is a bit different. To lessen the… Read More »

Apple announces iOS 9

During its WWDC, Apple announced the new operating system set to grace their mobile products. As expected it’s called iOS 9, and it’s more of an evolution of the software than a revolution. Arguably the biggest feature is Apple Proactive. In response to Google Now, Apple Proactive now enables Siri to save meetings from  emails, look up numbers through your email if an unknown number calls you, and even open up the now playing list should you plug earphones in. Siri also works better with photos now. Saying something like “show me photos from Cape Town last year” will bring up exactly that. It’s more about convenience than changing the way we use our phones, but it’s a nice touch. A new app, simply called “News”, measures what you search and read for most, and it puts updates or similar articles into one feed. It constantly changes to show you… Read More »
