OK, we don’t know much about snow on the Southern tip of Africa, however, this video has done a marvellous job of teaching us that a snowboard moves along the snow because the snow underneath it is being melted as the board rides along. Essentially, the rider is moving along a very thin film of water.

The guys at Signal Snowboards take Every Third Thursday off and use that time to play with ideas, work on new designs and figure out new ways to make snowboarding better. This week they took a new heat film that is flat, thin and can be cut to whatever shape you want and experimented to see if they could put the above scientific principle into practice on the bottom of the snowboard. The results made us warm!
